Hosting

Explanation:
Hosting a Web Site or Domain means selecting an ISP (Internet Service Provider) where your web site will reside. The ISP tells the rest of the world (delegation) where your site is, so others can view your site. With Domain Hosting, there are other features to configure, such as CGI script enabling, and Secure Connections (for secure Online Transactions such as Credit Card Billing). All of your Web Site files reside on the Host's Server, and Email (secure or not) are directed to your existing email account.(multiple directions available)

For example: You have a Domain name registered: "joebrown.com". Once registered, you need a "home" to put it. You choose an ISP to host your Domain.

You can just host the name, and have your emails redirected to your current email address, or opt to have an actual web site hosted.

The files for your site are then uploaded to that ISP's equipment, where anyone surfing to "www.joebrown.com" can see your site. You may choose Spiderweb to host your Domain, but to the public, you are still "www.joebrown.com".

Hosting with an ISP incurs a fee from that ISP. Fees vary with the amount of "features" required for your site. eg Secure Transactions, CGI script enabling, Statistic Tracking and so forth...

Hosting does not rely on an "ISP dependent" site address. If you don't feel that you are getting the service that you want, then you can take your Domain to another ISP without losing your "name" and email addresses.
